Economic Development

Middleborough retains an active Downtown Business District and supports significant commercial development primarily along the 13 mile Route 28 corridor and Routes 44 and 105 areas within the Town.  This commercial development includes but is not limited to retail shopping malls, medical office buildings, restaurants, office condominiums, retail outlets, stores and hotels.

A key responsibility of the OECD is attracting viable businesses to the Town center and to commercial areas.  The OECD advocates for businesses, commercial district revitalization, retail development, business attraction and retention, infrastructure improvements.  A future focus is tourism development.  The OECD works collaboratively with local business and economic development groups such as Middleborough on the Move, the Greater Attleboro-Taunton HOME Consortium, and the Southeastern Regional Planning & Economic Development District (SRPEDD) Regional Economic Strategy Committee.

The Town of Middleborough has the unique advantage of being both “regionally competitive” but “locally strategic.”  The Office of Economic & Community Development has a variety of programs and resources available to help current and new businesses in Middleborough prosper.
