SELECTMEN’S MEETING

OCTOBER 18, 2004

 

 

Chairman Perkins called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.

 

Selectman Bond, and Selectwoman Brunelle, and Selectman Wiksten were present.

Selectman Andrews was absent.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Request to Approve & Sign Bids – Treasurer/Collector

 

Upon motion by Selectwoman Brunelle seconded by Selectman Bond, the Board

VOTED:  To award a bid for Highway Chapter 90 monies in the amount of $286,874. to First Federal at an interest rate of 1.90%.

            Unanimous Vote.

 

Selectman Bond amended the motion to allow the Town Accountant to comment on future bid awards.  Chairman Perkins noted that the Treasurer/Collector has the authority to award the bids subject to a vote of the Board of Selectmen.

 

Upon motion by Selectwoman Brunelle and seconded by Selectman Bond, the Board

VOTED:  To award a bid for School Plans in the amount of $300,000. to First Federal at an interest rate of 2.19%.

            Unanimous Vote.

 

Request to Waive Building Permit Fees – Town Manager

 

Mr. Healey asked that the Board consider waiving the Building Permit fees for repairs to the Town Hall cupola.  A waiver will also be requested on the window replacement project in the Bank Building.

 

Selectman Wiksten asked how much the fees were.  He asked if the contractor would reflect the waiver of the fees in his bid.  If not, he was against the request.

 

Upon motion by Selectwoman Brunelle and seconded by Selectman Wiksten, the Board

VOTED:  To approve the request to waive the  Building Permit fees for the Town Hall cupola, subject to the Town Manager receiving a credit for the amount from the contractor, in writing.

            Unanimous Vote.

 

Request for Parade Permit – Middleboro Veterans Council

 

Upon motion by Selectwoman Brunelle and seconded by Selectman Bond, the Board

VOTED:  To approve the request made by the Middleboro Veterans Council to hold the Veteran’s Day parade on November 11, 2004, use the Town Hall Auditorium in the event of inclement weather, and permission to hold the annual Poppy drive on November 7th through November 9th, 2004.

            Unanimous Vote.

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

  • Selectman Wiksten suggested the Building Commissioner look into a temporary permit that had been granted to Michael Grant, to store an unoccupied trailer at 529 Wareham Street.

 

  • Selectman Bond noted that a trailer on Jackson Street remains with a sign that read “Toxic”.  The Town Manager will follow-up.

 

Upon motion by Selectwoman Brunelle and seconded by Selectman Wiksten, the Board

            VOTED:  To adjourn to Special Town Meeting at 6:55 PM.
